Alfonso Boone
Alfonso Boone was born January 11, 1976, and attended Arthur Hill High School where he played two years of varsity football. Boone was a member of the 1992 Lumberjacks Class AA State Runner-Up Team that lost 21-20 to Detroit Catholic Central at the Pontiac Silverdome. He was a 6-foot 4-inch 230-pound defensive end that also played spot duty at running back for the national ranked Lumberjacks hunting for a repeat title.
In 1995, Boone left Saginaw for Central State University in Wilberforce, Ohio. The football program folded after his freshman season. Out of football for three years, Boone tried out for Mount St. Antonio Junior College in Walnut, California. Boone was named Defensive Player of the Year All Mission Conference and 1998-1999 Junior college Grid-Wire All-American has a defensive tackle. With his college eligibility used up Alfonso entered the 2000 NFL Draft. Drafted in the seventh round by the Detroit Lions with the 253rd pick. Boone is the only junior college player ever selected during the NFL Draft.
Boone was placed on the Lion’s practice squad for the 2000 season. In 2000 with four games left, Boone was claimed off the Detroit Lions practice squad by the Chicago Bears. At 6’3” 320 lbs., Boone spent the next 7 years in Chicago. He was able to participate in the 2007 Super Bowl. In that game, the Bears with a 12-4 record faced Payton Manning and the Indianapolis Colts in the rain filled 2007 Super Bowl XLII in Miami.
Boone’s 10-year NFL career would then take him to the Kansas City Chiefs for (2007-2008) and the San Diego Chargers in (2009-2010) Boone retired in 2010 with 129 games played the NFL and 165 tackles 15.5 sacks and two forced fumbles, and three fumble recoveries. In 2021 Boone was inducted into the Arthur Hill Letterwinners Hall of Fame. He has also been elected to the California Community College Athletic Association Hall of Fame in 2021 and in 2022 he was elected to the Mt. St. Antonio College Athletics Hall of Fame.
