John Musulin

John Musulin (nicknamed “Muzz”) is a 1964
graduate of Monroe High School. He was the
1964 State Champion in the 100m butterfly and High School
All-American swimmer. Muzz was the holder of the AAU state record for
the 100 butterfly. Upon graduation, he accepted an athletic scholarship
to Michigan State University for swimming. He competed at MSU with
his best finish being 8th place in the 200-meter butterfly at the Big Ten
Championships in 1968.
Muzz started his coaching career in 1969 at Douglas MacArthur High
School. He has coached swimming at MacArthur, Eisenhower, and Heritage
High Schools in Saginaw, Michigan for both boys and girls. He has been
Regional Coach of the Year and Michigan Interscholastic Coach of the Year
twice. He has been inducted into the Monroe High School Hall of Fame and
to the Saginaw County Swimming Hall of Fame.
John has officiated basketball for 43 years. He has worked in district,
regional, and quarter final games for both boys and girls in the state
of Michigan. Muzz was also selected to work both boys and girls Ohio-
Michigan High School All Star games. He has officiated track for over 30
years, He has been a member of the Michigan High School Association for
over 50 years.
Muzz was a teacher in the Saginaw Township Community School District for
39 years before retiring in 2008. During those years, he had a big influence
on people in the pool as well as outside of it trying to instill lessons that
apply in athletics as well as in life. He has served as a Pool Director and
Swim Coach for the Saginaw County Club for 37 years and taught many
people how to swim.
John continues to live in Saginaw Township with his wife Carol and enjoys
his time with his 2 children and 3 grandchildren. Muzz continues to assist
in coach swimming and still officates in track.

2024 Class SCSHOF and making a difference in so many athletes’ lives.
