Saginaw High School – 1933-35 Participated in football, basketball, and track and field Set shot put, broad jump and high jump records Captured Class A shot put and high jump titles – 1934 Captured Class A shot put (new state record), high jump and broad jump titles – 1935 Helped lead Saginaw High to its first-ever Class A state track and field championship – 1935 University of Michigan – 1935-37 First black student athlete ever elected captain of the Wolverines’ Track team Set shot put and discuss records at University of Michigan. Captured the World Decathlon championship in Cleveland – 1940 Qualified for Olympics but the games were cancelled because of WWII Competing for the Detroit Police Department, he won the National AAU Decathlon championship – 1942 & 1943 Worked for the Detroit Police Department for 25 years, winning eight meritorious service citations.
