1992 Carrollton Girls Basketball Team

The 1992 Carrollton Girls Basketball team was a special one. Led by Coach Schumacher who, was later awarded the Regional Coach of the Year and Girls All-State Basketball Coach of the Year, this girls team beat 4 ranked teams including #1 Elk Rapids. All victories leading them to win the 1992 Class C State Championship, after beating Elk Rapids by a score of 63 to 41.

In that championship game, Carrollton shot 51% from the floor and 54% from the 3 point line. Their performance in their title run led them to 3 MHSAA State records. Those are:

  • State Championship game record with 7 three pointers made.
  • Most Three point shots made in a game with 16
  • Most field goals made in a game with 52, this record still stands as number one to this day.

They finished the season with a 27-1 overall record, their only loss coming from the Class B State Champions Frankenmuth.

The season was a true team effort with all 5 starters averaging double figures in scoring, and 4 players hitting the 1000 point club. 4 players were also  chosen for the Saginaw Dream Team, and 3 were chosen for All State selections. Carrollton scored 2071 points (73.9 ppg) for the season while only holding their opponents to 1011 points (36.1ppg).
