Nouvel Catholic Central Girls State Championship Basketball Team

In the 2006 season, the Nouvel Panthers girl’s basketball team ran the table winning all 28 games and played some of the best teams in the state including eight Class A schools and six in Class B. They averaged 55 points a game and outscored their opponents by a margin of 21 points a game. 

In the Regional Final against an undefeated Sandusky team, they walked off with a 59-28 win. The Panthers showed great poise in their Quarterfinal win over Detroit Community with a 55-54 victory. In the Semifinal 69-48 win over Houghton, Kelly Kretz led the way with 24 points while Rebeccah Rapin chipped in 16 points and eight boards.  Jenny Ryan had 13 points and Kate MacDonald had seven rebounds. In the Finals the Panthers handled Flint Hamady 65-56 to cap off a perfect season.  Jenny Ryan set a MHSAA Girls Basketball Finals record with 17 points in the first quarter and finished with 30 points and 11 rebounds. Kelly Kretz chipped in 10 points while Rebeccah Rapin had nine points and eight rebounds.

Jenny Ryan was selected to the Saginaw News Dream Team, Detroit News Class C First Team All-State, and Detroit Free Press Class C First Team All-State.

Kelly Kretz was selected to the Saginaw News Dream Team, Detroit News Class C Third Team All-State and Detroit Free Press Class C Fifth Team All-State

Rebeccah Rapin was selected to the Saginaw News Dream Team, Detroit News Class C All-State Honorable Mention and Detroit Free Press Class C All-State Third Team.

Kerry Sowatsky was selected to the Saginaw News Dream Team Honorable Mention

Due to a court ruling that switched volleyball and basketball seasons, the Panthers had to wait until 2008 to defend their title. After an early loss to Livonia Ladywood, the Panthers ran the table to a 24-1 record and outscored their opponents by an average of 28 points.   

They rolled through the Regional Final beating Flint Hamady by a score of 79-45. In the 62-44 Semifinal victory over Kingsley, Jenny Ryan and Jessi Franz each scored 16 points while Kelly Kretz chipped in 13. They coasted to a Finals victory over Galesburg-Augusta, 73-42.  Jenny Ryan set a MHSAA Girls Basketball Finals record with 12 steals and also scored 15 points. Kelly Kretz led the scoring with 20 points and eight rebounds. Kate MacDonald chipped in 12 points.

Jenny Ryan was selected to the Associated Press Class C Player of the Year, Saginaw News Dream Team, BCAM Class C First Team All-State, and Detroit News Class C First Team All-State. 

Kelly Kretz was selected to the Saginaw News Dream Team, Detroit Free Press Class C Third Team All-State, and BCAM Second Team All-State.

Kate MacDonald was selected to the Detroit Free Press Fifth Team All-State and the Saginaw News Dream Team Honorable Mention.

Ashley Albito was selected to the Saginaw News Dream Team Honorable Mention.

Jessie Franz was selected to the Saginaw News Dream Team Honorable Mention.
