Bob Andrezejewski

Bob Andrezejewski, a lifelong resident of Saginaw, was an outstanding three-sport athlete at Arthur Hill High School, where he started for the basketball, football and baseball teams. He would go on to Central Michigan University, where he received his Bachelor’s degree and two Master’s degrees. Andrezejewski was bitten by the baseball bug at an early age as he played Knothole baseball at Hoyt Park. He later played fast pitch softball as a sure-handed infielder and steady hitter for Bernie Call’s Thunderbirds, Sand Bar, and Expressway Bar. He also was player/coach for Old Mill and Westbay Honda softball teams, while collecting several recreation volleyball and basketball championships. Andrezejewski became “Coach Andy” at Bridgeport High School, where he was an assistant football coach for 20 years, and later seven years  at Arthur Hill High School. But his first love was – and always has been – baseball, where he would coach at the varsity level  for Bridgeport and Heritage high schools. He coached three years of junior varsity baseball before becoming head varsity baseball coach at Bridgeport, where his teams rolled up an impressive 449-257 record in 23 years. Coach Andy’s Bearcats won five White Pine Conference title, four district crowns, three regionals, one state semifinal, a trio of Saginaw News Area No.1 rankings, and three state top 10 finishes. Currently the varsity baseball coach at Heritage, he has coached the coach for 19 years, racking up a 510-179 record. Andrezejewski’s Heritage teams have won five Saginaw Valley League crowns, five districts, three regionals, two state semifinals, and four state top 10 finishes. He was named Coach of the Year in the White Pine Conference four times, Saginaw Valley League five times, Saginaw News’ All-Area four times, district four times, and regional three times. In 1978, Coach Andy was named Michigan High School Baseball Coaches Association Coach of the Year in Class A, and Michigan High School Coaches Association overall Coach of the Year. Andrezejewski was inducted into the Michigan High School Baseball Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 1993, and the  Michigan High School Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 2006. His current career record after 42 years coaching boys’ varsity baseball stands at an impressive 959-436 – the most  in Saginaw County history
