A three-year starter at fullback for the Trojans in football.
Named to Class A All-State football team his junior and senior year (1944-45) Member of two Class A state championship track & field teams (1945-46), and ran a leg on two state championship half-mile relay teams (1945-46) Received football scholarship to Michigan State College where he played fullback and receiver.

Earned four varsity letters. Started at fullback his junior and senior seasons Coached varsity football at Saginaw High School from 1958-61
