Katrina (Grantham) Masters

Ladies and gentlemen, Distinguished guests, family, friends, former teammates, and coaches…
Tonight, we celebrate excellence. We honor achievement. And most importantly, we recognize a truly remarkable individual whose impact on the court and in the community has left a legacy that
continues to inspire. It is my absolute privilege to present one of this year’s Hall of
Fame inductees—Katrina (Grantham) Masters.
Katrina’s story begins right here in Saginaw, Michigan, where she spent her entire
K-12 education in the Saginaw Township Community Schools. From the very
beginning, Katrina stood out—not just for her talent, but for her tenacity, her heart,
and her unwavering commitment to excellence.
At Heritage High School, Katrina was more than just a standout athlete—she was
a game-changer. A 4-year varsity starter, she left an indelible mark on the record
books as the school’s all-time leader in rebounds and blocked shots. But numbers
only tell part of the story. Her leadership as a 3-time team captain, her relentless
drive, and her dedication to her teammates made her the heartbeat of her team.
Her accolades speak volumes—Detroit Free Press 4th Place Miss Basketball, multiple
All-State selections, Saginaw Valley League First Teams, MVP titles, and more. But
perhaps most impressive was her ability to consistently elevate those around her.
She helped guide her team to an incredible four-year record of 86 wins and only 17
losses, including an undefeated regular season, a state runner-up title in 2001, and
a State Championship in 2002. A champion in every sense of the word.
Katrina continued her journey at Michigan State University, where she again proved
that greatness doesn’t come by accident—it’s earned through grit, sacrifice, and
leadership. As a four-year letter winner and captain of the 2006-07 team, Katrina
helped lead the Spartans to the NCAA Final Four and a National Championship
game appearance. She was part of teams that won both the Big Ten Regular Season
and Tournament Championships, and she excelled off the court as well—earning
Academic All-Big Ten honors and the prestigious MSU Provost Award, given to
a female student-athlete who best exemplifies excellence in the classroom, on the
court, and in the community.
Katrina’s journey didn’t end at graduation. She continued to give back to the game,
serving as a Graduate Assistant for the MSU Women’s Basketball Program while
earning her MBA. And today, she carries that same passion and drive into her life
in The Woodlands, Texas, where she’s raising two amazing daughters, Avery and
Taylor, with her husband John.
Katrina (Grantham) Masters is more than a Hall of Fame athlete—she is a model
of perseverance, humility, and integrity. Her legacy isn’t just in the stats or the
championships—it’s in the lives she’s touched, the teammates she’s inspired, and the
young athletes who now believe that with heart and hard work, anything is possible.
So, on behalf of the Saginaw community, the Heritage family, and the world of
women’s basketball—Katrina, we thank you. We honor you. And tonight, we proudly
welcome you into the Saginaw County Sports Hall of Fame.
